Introduction

Are you still confused about which printer would be best suited for your needs or which one you should buy, a Laser or an inkjet printer? Well, it all comes to the usage and how much would it cost you for the ink. Laser printers are cheap; however, their print quality is not as good as the inkjet printers. In both cases, the primary issue for the consumer is the smaller ink cartridge, which had to replace very often. Epson did listen to the customer and brought out a product that can simplify the ink refill process and reduce the cost of printing. Let’s take a look at Epson L3115 and L3116 review.

Epson L3115 And L3116 Review

Keeping customer needs in mind Epson has brought out Epson L3116 & Epson L3115 Ecotank printers. It can give you the highest quality prints and removes the hassle of changing the ink cartridges regularly. Both these models have a large ink reservoir and do not need ink replacement very often. This printer improves over its predecessor’s (Epson L3110) drawbacks. Let’s have a look at some of the Key Features, Pros & Cons of the Epson L3115 & L3116.

The Differences Between L3115 And L3116

The only difference we can spot between these two devices is their colour: Epson L3115 comes with a mix of white and blue colours whereas L3116 is in full white. Apart from that, both these models are filled with similar features. There is a slight difference in their price, and it changes from time to time. So if you are just confused on which one to buy, pick your favourite colour and buy that.

Epson L3110 Vs L3115 Vs L3116 Comparison

If you look at the specifications of these printers, they are all the same, but yet they are different in whole another level. To put it simply, Epson L3110 had so many software complaints that Epson had to come up with a couple of new products to that price range.

The major complaints were caused due to the firmware itself. Due to the ineffective ink management by the software, the ink ran out quickly. As the customer complaints pile up, Epson started to notice the error in L3110. As a solution, Epson rolled out a firmware update which meant to rectify the issues caused because of the core software.

However, did it actually rectified the issue?

This question doesn’t have a yes or no answer! In short, it cleared the software malfunctions to some extent, but the update wasn’t enough to hide the lousy customer reviews that it produced during its initial period.

As the damage control plan didn’t work out the way they thought it’d be, they announced two new devices on the 10,000+ Rs price range, i.e., Epson L3115 and L3116.

Features of Epson L3115 And L3116

Design

The build quality of both the printers is excellent and made with high-quality plastic. It only covers an area of 14 inches on the desk and can be easily placed in any corner of the room. Although it’s an ink tank printer, the dimension is very compact. The printer is 7 inches tall and 15 inches wide.

Print & Scan Properties

It is a 3 in 1 printer which can print, scan, and copy at the same time. It supports the printing of photo paper and prints on page size A4, A5, A6, B5, C6, DL. Higher GSM support is also available till GSM 180. It can print up to a maximum resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi. With faster printing speed, it can print up to 33 pages (per min) in black and 15 pages (per min) in colour. The scan feature supports the highest resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi and a maximum scan area of 216 x 297 mm. The copy function can make 20 copies at a time from a single document and the maximum copy size available in A4.

Ink Cost

The main feature of Epson L3115 and L3116 is the large ink reservoir and reduced printing cost. One set of the ink bottles can print up to 7500 coloured prints and 4500 black prints. The ink bottles are readily available on multiple stores and can be easily purchased. The overall cost is less when compared to replacing an ink cartridge. Also, the ink bottles fit the corresponding colour tank and stop automatically when the ink tank is full.

Connectivity

Coming to the connectivity option. Both Epson L3116 and L3115 only support USB connectivity, unlike other printers in this price range. It’d have been a complete printer (well almost) if Epson had made it as a wireless printer. These devices don’t support OTG connections either.

Other Features

  • Epson L3115 and L3116 have a higher print head life span which can range from 3-5 years long. It also comes with the automatic cleaning option that removes any dry ink particles and blows them out.
  • Both the printers have a stand by time of 20-30 days without printing that avoids print head damage. Most of the printer requires you to print at least once in two weeks.
  • Epson L3115 & L3116 price is much lower than the printers in the same segment.
  • It consumes very little power, making it highly power efficient. It consumes a maximum of 12W and a minimum of 0.3W on standby.

Things We Did Not Like About Epson L3115 & L3116

Both the models are a little noisy. The noise levels can reach up to 38~52dB. It’s not very loud but can’t be ignored as well. Also, It does not support automatic duplex or two-sided printing. It’s an essential feature that reduces the manual intervention of the user. In this case, you have to do it manually. Although the device is easy to use, the installation process does require a little knowledge before using the printer. The user needs to make sure that he reads all the instructions available in the user manual before he starts to install it.

Verdict

So, this was the Epson L3115 and L3116 review. Both of these models were brought out in the market to overcome the drawbacks of the previous models, & they rightly did so. With increased printed speed, photo paper support, increased GSM support, and a big ink tank reservoir, this is one of the best options for you to buy. It supports all your home and small business needs and will meet your printing budget at the same time. It comes with warranty coverage of up to 1 year or 30,000 prints, and also includes the print head.

I love computer devices of all kinds! I am particularly interested in productivity devices such as printers. I remember my first printer back in 2008, which was an awesome experience for me. I learned a lot of things after that experience. I intend to share my experience through this blog. That way I can make others understand the nuances and help them to make the right purchase decision.

    Hi
Nice to read your detailed review. Needed your recommendations for choice between HP 319 vs Epson 316. Requirement is for home usage of a non-wifi printer.

      Hi Nishant,

I believe you’re talking about Epson L3116. If you are comparing it with HP 319, I’d suggest going with HP 319. HP has cheaper part replacements and good availability of consumables.

    Hello,
I intend to buy an Inktank Printer. Can you suggest me one?.. Budget 12-13k. I was going through reviews, and I see that Epson L3110 and L3115 has good print quality. But these are old models I suppose. Can you suggest any so that I can use it for 3-4 years before the model is discontinued. I print about 3-4 pages every day.
    Thanks..
