Brother DCP-T710W Printer Review

BROTHER DCP-T710W PRINTER Review

Ink Tank printers are fairly popular in the market due to their low print cost and high page yield. Another essential feature of an ink tank printer is the big ink tank, which can yield anywhere between 5000-8000 pages in one refill. Ink tanks make printing much more economical and more straightforward for Office, Home, and Businesses.

One such printer that provides all the necessary features of an Ink tank printer is Brother DCP-T710W. Brother does not need any introduction in the field of printers. It has produced some great printers with multiple functionalities. This ink tank printer from Brother is no exception. With a high page yield and good printing speed, it provides both economical and efficient printing. If you are looking for an ink tank printers that have the balance of all the available features in the market, then this could be the one. Let’s have a look at some of the features available in this model.

Features of Brother DCP-T710W Printer

Brother DCP-T710W Is one of those printers, which has more pros than cons. It provides a great balance of all the features and decent printing quality. However, there are various aspects of this printer that we need to check before making a choice. Let’s look at Brother DCP-T710W’s important features.

Design

This printer from Brother has a great design and is suitable for both Home and Office. The build quality of the printer is top-notch and feels very durable while using. The design form factor is not bulky and has a small footprint. This makes it easy to place anywhere in an office or at home. It also has a small display, which makes it easier for a user to navigate through printer functions.

The ink tank is placed on one side of the printer, which does not add any bulk to the design. The overall design of the printer seems to be strong and compact. The printer also includes 10 key function buttons, which can help the user to easily use different printer functions, with just a touch of a button.

Print & Scan Properties

Brother DCP-T710W printer is very cost-effective in terms of cost per print (CPP) This printer can print one black and white page for 8 Paise per page and one colour page for 26 Paise per page *. According to ink tank printer standards, this is a good CPP. Although this printer has a lot of features at this price point, the print quality seems to be moderate.

This printer provides support for borderless printing and has a print speed of 12 ppm for black and 10ppm for colour. It also has the page support for A4, A5, A6, B5, C6 Dl, with the support for photo paper. It can print up to a maximum resolution of 1200 x 6000 dpi.

DCP-T710W also supports scan and copy function and can do both at a resolution of 1,200 dpi × 1,200 dpi. The printer also has ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) feature that allows the user to copy and scan both sides without manual intervention. It also has automatic cleaning function, which is normal at this price range. The print head has an average life span of 3-5 years, making it worth its value. With a large paper tray and support for paper up to 200 GSM, it fulfils almost all the basic requirements of a printer.

Ink Cost

BROTHER DCP-T710W INK REFILLINGBrother DCP-T710W ink tank Printer provides you with a good value for money when it comes to ink cost. Since it is an ink tank printer, the cost of refilling the ink is less and more economical. It uses a spill-proof ink refilling method which makes it easier for a user to refill the ink.

This printer can provide a page yield of 6500 prints for black ink and 5000 prints for other colours, which is good for an ink tank printer. Its ideal usage is about 300 pages per month and can remain without print for 15-20 days. During this time, the ink will not dry up, and you can continue using it without any issues.

Connectivity

When it comes to providing connectivity options, Brother DCP-T710W is one of the best wireless printers available in the market. It includes USB wired connectivity with OTG and Wireless connectivity support. Providing multiple types of connectivity options makes it a perfect match for any office use, which has large workgroups. It can be used to print from any area in the office through WiFi Connection. It also supports direct mobile connectivity option, which makes printing from mobile very easy.

DCP-T710W also has a memory of 128 MB that can save photos sent through email for printing.

Display

Brother DCP-T710W has a 1-line LCD control panel that will assist the users during their time with the printer. The display is an excellent addition because it improves user experience to a large extent. Conventional printers have LED indications, where you have to count the blinks to identify the error code. With an LCD, you can identify the error codes by just reading it on the screen. It also displays the print count so you can get an estimate of the time required for that task.

OS support and Warranty

Currently, this printer supports both Mac OS, Linux, and Windows OS. The support for these OS has been excellent and regular software updates are provided to make the printer work better on all these operating systems. One can easily download the driver for both the OS from the official website of Brother.

The installation process for this printer is very easy and does not require any professional help. Just connecting the printer and following the on-screen instructions is what a user needs to do. But if you need, you can also avail free Brother installation support at 1800 22 2422 & 1800 20 98904.

Drawbacks But Not Deal Breakers

The printer packs a lot of features and is one of the best offering Brothers in this price range. However, there are still a few things that can be improved in the printer to make it a preferred choice in this category. The major flaw in this printer is the print quality. It seems that the print quality of this printer is just moderate. Under this price range, you can find many other printers that are given a much better quality print.
Secondly, the printer seems to be a bit noisy. When working with the printer, it can be a little loud for people sitting near it. Apart from these, there are no major flaws in the printer.

Verdict

Brother DCP-710W is a well-built ink tank printer that provides moderate-quality prints and lots of features under this price range. If you are looking for a printer that offers a bit of everything, then this is the one to get. However, if your priority is high-quality print images, you should look for more options under this price range. The printers appear to strike a balance between all the features, making it best for home and office use.

I love computer devices of all kinds! I am particularly interested in productivity devices such as printers. I remember my first printer back in 2008, which was an awesome experience for me. I learned a lot of things after that experience. I intend to share my experience through this blog. That way I can make others understand the nuances and help them to make the right purchase decision.

    hello,

I think in the T710W and 510W comparison field above, you have interchanged the ADF fields.. its marked Not Available under T710 and Available under T510W. Also does 710w offer Automatic duplex printing?

    1. John M

      Hi Shafeeq,

Thanks mate for pointing that out, I really appreciate your help. It was a typo.

Regarding your question, T710W has no automatic duplex printing; it only has manual duplex option. Cheapest all in one duplex printer is Epson L4160 (Normally the price is around 18k but due to the high demand now its 25k).

If you just need a single function all in one printer, the cheapest option is Canon G5070.

      1. Shafeeq

Thanks for the quick response, John. Definitely not the ideal time to pick remote work easing computer peripherals.. :) Some of the microphones I was tracking are all out of stock or double the cost now. Same with the printers. Thanks for maintaining this great source about printers for helping the Indian consumers decide.

  2. Simon CW

    Hi John,
Thank you for your useful review!
I currently consider Brother T710 or HP tank 615 for my primary school children.

what I am most concerned about is the user friendly and durability, could you give me some advice, thank

Also, do you think the pigment ink is necessary? As I find that the black ink of T710 is dye (non waterproof), indeed, I have no idea the real situation for dye and pigment ink under wet……

    thank you!

    1. John M

      Hi Simon,

HP 615 is almost non-existent in my country, so my opinions will be based purely on printer specifications. If you don’t want the FAX feature, you should go with the cheaper variant-HP 530 (if that’s available in your country). HP 615 is a great printer and has good features. But I believe they have priced the printer a bit aggressively, at least that’s the case in India with HP 500 series. If you can get DCP-T710W for a lower price, I’d suggest buying that. The only advantage I see with HP printers is that their cheap replacement parts, but with the price difference with these printers I don’t think it’ll be much of a difference.

      1. Simon CW

        Hi John,

        Thank you for your reply.

You are right that Hp530 is better for me as fax function is not my need but it’s also non-existent in my Country.

However, the price ( including the gifts, such as supermarket cash coupon and ink,) is no big difference for both 710 and 615 printers.

If only based purely on printer specifications to consider, HP is more attractive as better printing quality with waterproof black ink which benefit to prevent fade when using highlight pen on my kids study notes. Also the HP mobile app is more user family for my kid. But there are some customers review to point that paper to be jammed easily.

Brother, at least in my Country, has good reputation in printer durability, but I’m afraid of the dye ink to be fade seriously under wet…….

Do you think pigment is important and give me some advice, thank

        1. John M

          Hi again,

I don’t think the print quality or the ink reaction with water will be different in each printer. If the cost is the same, I’d prefer HP 615, because its a new model and the technology used in this printer is cutting edge.

I want to print Colour stickers and colour labels. These should be water proof. The average job will be 300 – 400
A4 Sheets per month. Please Suggest a good printer.

    1. John M

      Hi Vinayak,

I am not an expert in sticker printing, but I have seen people using regular Epson ink tank printers for sticker/label printing. If the GSM of the sticker sheets is less than 180 GSM, you should go with Epson printers; if you have higher thickness sheets, you may choose Brother DCP-T510W or HP 415 printers.

  4. Ajay

Hi John… Many thanks for the helpful articles. I want to buy a printer for home use and after reading your articles I have decided to buy Brother DCP T710W… Pls confirm whether it is the right printer or not especially compared to DCP T510w… Thanks again… Regards, Ajay

    1. John M

      Hi Ajay,

It’s a good choice. But in my opinion, if you don’t need ADF function (mainly used when the scanning requirement is high or to scan legal-size sheets), you should go with 510W. DCP-T510W is more than enough for regular use.

  5. Krishnan PS

Hi John, I am in the market looking for Ink Tank all-in-ones. I have read your reviews on all models and it is very informative. I am looking to buy a all-in-one ink tank with Direct Wi-Fi & ADF and I have shortlisted HP Smart Ink Tank 530; Epson L5190; Canaon G4010 & Brother 710. Features / functionality across all the 4 models are almost similar.

    My specific requirements are

    1) Direct Wi-Fi: Ability to print from my laptop direct without the need for a router;
    2) Good printer and scanner speed;
    3) Printer with the best wi-fi range;
    4) Print yield;
    5) Best connectivity across smartphones and windows / Mac based laptops;
    6) No paper jam issues
    7) Best functional paper loading for printing as well as ADF
    8) Good & easy set up, support and spares availability

Which amongst the 4 models would you recommend from a usability / performance perspective as well as my requirements above

Look forward to your advise please

    Thanks

    Krishnan

    1. John M

I hope I answered your question on the other comment.

  6. Krishnan PS

Thanks John for your recommendation on HP 530. Very much appreciated. HP dealers have run out of stock for this model in Chennai. What would be your order of priority amongst the 4 brands / models given that HP is not available. Is a always on Direct wi-fi connection from a laptop an issue with these models that results in connectivity loss using wifi direct with the need to reconfigure on a regular basis. This is an important parameter for me. Which of the 4 brands have addressed the connectivity issue the best. Shall appreciate your advise please

    1. John M

      Hi Krishnan,

Connectivity can occur either if the PC/laptop has an issue or if the printer has an issue. But I haven’t seen such issues in this area. If HP 530 is not available, you can also look for Epson L5190 and Brother DCP-T710W.

  7. Meling

Hi, I would like to ask if I could use another brand of ink on my printer, say my printer is Brother DCP-T710W and I’m gonna use Epson ink. is it possible?

    1. John M

I won’t recommend it. Each ink has different chemical formulas. Manufacturers normally patent it because that’s the only type of ink to achieve the best results with a certain ink. But you can use third-party inks that says it is compatible with that printer (say DCP-710w).

  8. Yadu

Hi John, this was one of the best reviews I read. You have made the points which are searched elsewhere by people like me very clear. Thanks a lot for helping us to take a right decision.

  9. Neerav P

Thanks a ton, John, for all the hard work that you put in to help others! Truly appreciated. Thnx to your advice, I’ve almost finalized Brother DCP-T710W. I just need to know whether it supports AirPrint or not. Can you please help me find this out?

  10. Nava aazad

    sir,i m confused among epson l3152,brother t 710 and canon g 3000.
actually,i want a printer which will give me high page yield with low cost of ink and should be used for printing passport size photos with clear quality. There should be low risk of ink cloaging.

  11. Mar

Hi John! I have a DCPT710W brother printer. Does it work for stickers? If so, what should I do?? Thank you!!

  12. Sue

    Hi John,

Thank you for the very well-rounded review of this product. I have 2 questions after I read your review:

    1. What is an ink tank printer that has better print quality than Brother DCP-T710W of equivalent price point?

    2. Can brother printer print stickers (This question was also asked by Mar. ) I searched online and brother’s official website said that it is not recommended to do so and it is out of the warranty coverage.

  13. Mj

Can i use 230 gsm photopaper in DCP T710w?
