Important Features

Print, Copy and Scan Features

Besides the print function, Epson L4160 offers the scan and copy functions too. Hence, it serves as a multifunction or ‘all-in-one’ device.

Print Features

With the on-demand piezoelectric inkjet technology, Epson L4160 gives you extra sharp prints of 5760 x 1440 dpi resolution. With full ink capacity, it provides a page yield of 8000 colour pages and 6000 B&W pages. You get all this at a cost as little as 10 paise for black and white (per regular print) and 21 paise if it is colour. The print speed is approximately 10 ipm for black prints, which means 10 impressions or images per minute. It will be around 5.0 ipm only if you want colour printouts. Another major highlight is the automatic duplex feature.

You don’t even need to turn the page to print on the other side; two-sided printing is done fully automatically by the printer. And, the paper tray can hold 100 sheets of 75 GSM sheets. The maximum paper thickness supported in this printer is 180 GSM. For best output, the recommended duty cycle is 800 prints per month.

Scan Features

The flatbed colour scanner incorporated into the device gives you an optical resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi, which is very common compared to similar scanners. The colour depths for input and output are 48 bit and 24 bit respectively. The printer housing a CIS sensor module only takes 11 seconds per 200 dpi for black scans or 28 seconds for colour and is ideal for all your A4 size scan needs. However, there is no ADF facility.

Copy Features

As a combination of the print and scan facilities, the Epson L4160 flatbed feature also helps you make direct simplex copies of commendable quality. The copying speed ranges are 7.7 ipm and 3.8 ipm for black and colour copies respectively.

Ink Tank Features

The compact design of the ink-tank and its clever integration contributes significantly to reducing the overall size of the printer. And the ink-refilling is a breeze. The ink bottle that comes with this printer contains unique nozzles that will only fit into the right tanks. This special design forms a closed passage making a spill-free refilling. The high tank capacity saves time by avoiding frequent refilling, unlike cartridge replacement. Moreover, there is huge saving as you get tens of times printouts with the ink tank compared to the cartridge set. Make sure you purchase the original ink from the manufacturer for the best results.

Wireless Connectivity Features

Epson L4160 comes with a plethora of wireless features, direct as well as third-party.

  • Wi-Fi connectivity: Allows convenient shared printing, including mobile devices.
  • Wi-Fi Direct: Allows you to connect up to four devices at the same time.
  • Epson Connect iPrint: Print or scan from a smart device or cloud from anywhere.
  • Epson Connect Email Print: Directly print from a terminal using email access.
  • Google Cloud Print: Print from your Google account or Android phone.
  • Epson Connect Remote Print: Print from anywhere using the internet from a terminal with Remote Print driver.
  • Mopria: Use the service to print from android devices with OS version 4.4 or later.

UI Features and OS Support

The front panel has a minimalistic design with a 1.4” LCD screen in the middle and a small number of buttons on either side with explanatory icons so that anyone can use them easily. Using the LCD screen, you can view the functions and notifications, and make necessary settings. You don’t need to connect to a PC for any setting. You can connect to the printer via the USB 2.0 port.

It supports the commonly used operating systems such as Windows XP and higher, and Mac OS 10.6.8 and above versions. That’s not all. It even supports the Linux operating system. This is good news for many Linux users as they may not easily find many printers that support Linux.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • High page yield
  • WiFi available
  • Automatic duplex printing
  • SD card reader
Cons

Conclusion

With its quality in design and function, a host of wireless connectivity options and money-saving features, Epson L4160 is, no doubt, one of the best printers you can proudly own. With commendable support and a warranty of 1 year or 30,000 prints, you can use it without a hassle. Priced in the mid-high range for all the useful features, it is one of the most economical automatic duplex printers available in the market today.

I love computer devices of all kinds! I am particularly interested in productivity devices such as printers. I remember my first printer back in 2008, which was an awesome experience for me. I learned a lot of things after that experience. I intend to share my experience through this blog. That way I can make others understand the nuances and help them to make the right purchase decision.

Hi L4160 supports the Apple AirPrint, so that can not be a con.
Can you please help to compare the photo print quality between L4160 vs brother T520w and canon G3060 please.

  4. Harmit

I like L4160 for home use, but have few queries:
Is it good for photo printing? the quality of print and GSM paper recommended.
During some research found incase of any problem with the cartridge or nozzle in EPSON ecotank, the printers need to be changed, almost not repairable. Is it so?
How are the services of EPSON?
    Thanking you in anticipation.
