Canon G3010 Ink Tank Printer Review
Canon G3010 is one of the better ink tank printers to consider in this price range. Canon specializes the print media and they are one of the pioneers in this industry. They have produced and racked a wide range of printers, designed for the homes and offices. The G3010 is another good example from Canon that could be used by the home and office users. When it comes to pricing, it is quite reasonable, the offered features equally suffice with its price tag. This feature centric printer is suitable for all those who need a print every other day. To evaluate further, let’s delve into each section of this printer and see its section-wise performance.
Design
The design of the Canon G3010 makes it pretty convenient. Unlike many other printers, the G3010 has the ink tank inside. This increased the size of the printer a bit. But everything is neatly aligned. Further, the connectivity and power port make the design more valuable. The reversible power connector is on the left of the printer. Plugging and removing it is easy because of the port setting. Ahead of that the system connectivity port is on the right hand of the printer.
The Canon G3010 printer has a user interface with a 1.2-inch display. This small display makes printing a lot easier. It helps you to keep track of the pending tasks and to easily understand the error codes.
Print & Scan Properties
The standard printing speed for black is 8.8 impressions in a minute and for coloured it is 5 pages. The printing quality is pretty fine for the home and office users. But it may not fulfil the needs of the commercial users. The printing properties allow the user to print photos, documents, and high-resolution content. The manufacturer suggests using the original ink and accessories to ensure the best performance.
It can print up to 4800×1200 resolution and the scanning goes deep into 600×1200 dpi. The least recommended paperweight is 80 gsm and max it could take 275 gsm. Additionally, it also prints the photographs and images on the 4×6-inch photo sized laminated and matte paper. At the copier function, the G3010 can print up to 20 copies in a single go.
Connectivity
The printer uses the USB port to connect with the computer system. Ahead of that it also features wireless printing. The primary source is the Wi-Fi. And the secondary source is through using smartphones. Apps are available for both Android and iOS.
Cost of Ink
The original ink costs around Rs. 2,200 (Buy ink only from reputed sellers such as Appario Retail, CloudTail, etc...). The supported ink is GI-790 CYMB which could be acquired easily from the cannon online store and market dealers. As per Canon, G3010 can print up to 7000 pages of colour pages and 6000 pages of black and white prints from one full set of ink bottles. However, if the print preferences are set on higher resolution, the page count may reduce.
Warranty and OS Support
This printer comes with a limited 1-year warranty. The limited warranty means that only technical failure is covered. And damage caused because of a mishap or an accident would not be entertained. Further, the printer is fully supported by Microsoft Windows 7 and higher users. But there is yet no support available for the Mac OS. The Mac users would have to check the other variant, Canon G3000 printer.
Pros & Cons
PROS | CONS |
Build quality is good Wireless printing Display screen Mobile apps available for remote printing | No ADF Official support for Mac OS is not available |
Verdict
The number of features included in Canon G3010 is sufficient for the home and office users. It would greatly suffice with the needs of the students as well. Especially those who need colour prints for their presentations. Price may matter to some consumers. And they may even consider other options. But the cheaper options may not match the performance of G3010.

John
hi . I am planning to buy a printer for home use, primarily for kids homework.work sheets in addition occasionally photo printing. I have finaled Brither DCP – 710W., bur read not so good reviews about the print quality . How is Brither print quality/techinal support as compared to HP and Canon brand.Other options I am exploring are HP 410 and canon pixma G3000. Please suggest which is good and reason for the same. I am getting all the printer almost in same range.
Hi Amit,
I have had heard great things about photo print quality of Canon printers. So if you are serious with photo printing, go with G3000 series.
Other printers are also good at things you mentioned, but they are primarily for document printing, but they can deliver decent quality photo prints. So if you have a low requirement for photo printing, you should definitely go with DCP-710W, it’s a great printer with a lot of features at an affordable price. Their tech support and product quality are on par with other big companies.
And if you decided to purchase HP 410, I’d recommend the next version of that series-HP 415 or 419. Those printers have a better page yield.
Hi John,
Does Canon G3010 and G3012 printers support manual duplex printing?
Thanks,
Nitin
Hi Nitin,
Yes, these printers do support manual duplex printing. You need to understand that the paper should be reversed by you as per the software instructions to print both sides of a sheet. And there will be no automatic mechanisms inside the printer.
Hi, I am planning to buy a printer for both regular purpose and for printing photos also. I have shortlisted two printers – Canon G3010 & HP 419 and want to know between these two which is best option.? Two questions I have: 1) I see Cannon G3010 got a Network like port which can be connected to laptop and print directly. How this feature is different from HP 419. 2)The number of pages print per cartridge is very high in HP 419 compare to Canon G3010 which is thinking me to go with HP 419.
Thanks
Hi Srinivas,
1) The port you were mentioning might be the printer USB port; every printer has it. Canon G3012 has no additional ports when compared to HP 419. Both of them has USB 2.0 and WiFi connectivity.
2) Page yield shown in the printer specification is misleading most of the time because each manufacturer picks the standards by their own, especially in the case of colour printers since there are infinite variations to colour documents. In my opinion, both Canon and HP has a similar page yield. Some of the advantages of these printers are: HP has cheaper replacement parts like print head, Canon is very popular among photo printers for its print quality (I have not seen any difference in the quality, but the users prefer Canon printers for photo printing when the price range is below 15k)
The print quality of Canon 3010 is pathetic for photo printing. You get dotted lines throughout the print. On showing to Canon support, they confirmed that it will be there and there is no solution.
That’s new information for me. It might be due to your piece. I have heard good things about canon colour printing.
John M, is there anyway which can be done to use 3012 on mac OS?
Hi Sangayya,
G3012 is not supported with Mac OS. Sorry I haven’t tried any other way around this issue.
Hi John,
I am confused between HP 419 vs Canon 3010?
What’s your pick? What will be the difference in quality and after sales service?
Though I dnt have a mac ..I do have an Ipad, I am leaning towards canon but not sure.
Regards,
Sunny
Hi John
I Need your quick help on finalizing a printer. I need a printer for home use. I went through all your earlier comments and it was really useful. Based on my requirements I am planning to buy Canon G3010 or HP 415. Pls clarify the below queries.
1. iPad compatibility- Both HP 415 and G3010 will support printing from iPad right…
2. Just wanted to know if both HP and Canon have good service networks in Chennai.
3. Finally, I saw that you have mentioned that HP printer parts cost less.
How about Canon… How costly is the parts when compared to HP.
Appreciate your support in helping us to choose the right printers…
Keep up your good work.
Thanks

Hi. I’m contemplating between canon g3020 and brothers t510w. Can you give some advices ? Which one is more recommended in terms of the quality and durability? Also which one has cheaper and easy to get replacments/parts?
Hi. Between canon g3020 and brothers t510w. Can you give some opinions in terms of the quality and durability? Also which one has cheaper and easy to get replacments/parts?
As lot of people asking question, I Also have the same confusion shall I go for HP 415/419 or G3010.
Everything is similar except additional paper support of letter in G3010.
The only main difference which we see is the page yield is double. but as John mentioned we cannot exactly specify company will claim anything we have to check practically. one more thing what I observed is why 419 is claiming more page yield is they give extra black color bottle not sure if the storage is big.
I am little more shifted towards HP only but john insists to go for canon g3010, so again confused.
I liked the design of Canon, INK tank is integrated within not like HP. We have HP 515 which is integrated but that is costly. lets see I will be deciding tomorrow , will give my feedback also
