EPSON L805 Printer Review

Epson is a known name when it comes to printer technology. It has some really amazing printers in the market with excellent performance and low-cost functions. Due to this, Epson printers are used by households, students, and business units at the same time. With so many Epson printers in the market, there are some printers that are specifically suited for both photo printing and regular printing. Epson L805 is one such printer that comes with a broad array of features at a great price. It is a single function ink tank printer that comes with the WiFi functionality. With all of its advanced functionalities, it is apparent that L805 is one of the cheapest professional photo printers available in the market. Let’s have a look at the Epson L805 printer review with some detailed explanation of its features.

Epson L805 is a single function professional photo printer that comes with many features. Although it is the best photo printer at this price point, it does not lack in functionality. Let’s have a look at some of the most important Epson L805 specifications.

EPSON L805 Dimensions

The body of this printer is made with very high-quality plastic and seems very sturdy. The ink tank is not inbuilt in the printer’s body; it is placed on the side of the main body for easy refilling process. L805 is designed for easy use in an office space, and the body is very durable.

Print Properties

EPSON L805 CD Tray

Epson L805 is a single function printer that is  aimed at professional users with quality based printing requirements. The printer can give some excellent looking prints on regular paper and also high GSM paper like glossy paper. You can increase the quality of the photo printing. However, it will reduce the number of prints per refill. It can print up to a resolution of 5,760 x 1,440 dpi with a print speed of 5 pages per minute. It also provides borderless printing and paper support of up to 280 GSM. Epson l805 can also use different types of trays for different requirements. Such as Epson l805 CD tray for printing CD/DVD cover and Epson l805 ID card tray for printing cards like business cards. The company also suggests using genuine Epson ink refills to produce high-quality prints.

Epson L805 does not lack connectivity either. It provides seamless OTG, USB, and WiFi connectivity, which makes it very useful and efficient to use in a workgroup. One can also use the Epson iPrint App to connect with the printer using WiFi and using the print function remotely through a mobile device. The L805’s integrated WiFi support and extensive color matching of 6 inks will allow you to print low-cost, studio-quality photos at your convenience. With its wide array of connectivity options, Epson L805 will adjust to any sort of working environment.

Ink Cost

EPSON L805 Ink refilling

Epson Ink tank printer is mainly designed with the purpose of reducing the printing cost. However, in our research, we found that this might not be the strongest feature of Epson L805. The Epson L805 ink price is comparatively higher than the other ink tank printers in this range. Although it has a larger ink tank, the cost of photo print can go up to 2 Rs per photo print in color, which can increase if the quality of the print is increased.

Unlike conventional ink tank printers, Epson L805 has 6 types of inks, which is essential to produce high precision image depiction. With this setup L805 can produce around 1800 4R photos or up to 5000 regular prints with a single refill. However, it does make for the printing cost of the high-quality images it can print. Ink cost is comparatively lower and can easily be refilled through a spill-free procedure through ink bottles. The printer ink will not be affected if it is not used for 10-15 days without printing even once.

Warranty And OS Support

Epson L805 comes with a warranty of one year or 3000 prints, whichever is earlier. It seems to be less for a professional photo printer where it can reach the number of 3000 prints very soon while being used professionally.

As for the OS support, it currently supports both Mac and Windows and can be easily installed on both.

Multiple reviews from certified buyers have been positive for this model, and as per them, the quality of prints provides excellent images and colors.

  • Automatic Duplex Function: Although Epson L805 is an excellent professional photo printer, some of its missing features are a little letdown. The printer at this price range does not support the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) function, which is readily available with printers in this budget. This adds the need for manual intervention by the user in order to print both sides.
  • Printing Cost: The printing cost is high when compared to other ink tank printers in this range. However, it is due to the excellent photo quality it generates. The printing cost further increases if you increase the quality of images.
  • Insufficient Warranty: When you make a professional printer, it is apparent that it will be used more when compared to a printer based on home needs. For a professional printer, Epson L805’s 1 year or 3000 prints (whichever is earlier) warranty clause is insufficient and it should be extended. When using professionally, 3000 prints can be used within a few months of purchase, in this case, the warranty period is over for the products that seem to be a let down at this price point.

So this is our Epson L805 printer review. There is no doubt that this is a great printer with a lot of useful features and provides excellent photo printing solutions for professional needs. The build quality of this device is rigid and provides some excellent features like direct printing on CDs and business cards etc. If you need a professional printer that prints excellent quality pictures, this can be a great choice. If you can compensate a bit on the printing price and page yield per refill, this is the printer for you. Apart from that, this is one of the cost-effective professional photo printers available in the market and an excellent product for the initial setup.

I love computer devices of all kinds! I am particularly interested in productivity devices such as printers. I remember my first printer back in 2008, which was an awesome experience for me. I learned a lot of things after that experience. I intend to share my experience through this blog. That way I can make others understand the nuances and help them to make the right purchase decision.

Hey, am planing to buy the epson l805 printer and my biggest concern is its speed. Can you pelase tell me how many seconds it takes to print 4*6inch photo?

    1. John M

      Hi Kaleab,
Company is telling that it will take around 30 sec to print out one 4R image (4*6 in). But this might vary drastically depending upon the quality option you pick and the type of paper you print.
In average it’ll take around 45 seconds per one 4*6 inch photo.

Does this use dye ink? And does the photo print using the epson l805 original inks fade in time and scattered when there is a water drop on prints?

    1. John M

      Hi Shi,

Yes, L805 uses dye-based ink to print, similar to other ink tank printers but they can accommodate more colours in one single image. Regarding your question about fading, it depends on the paper you are using, if its low quality 70 gsm sheets, it is likely to fade when it has contact with water (this is same for all printers). If you’re using glossy paper or sheets that are desired for photo printing, the photo will last longer.

Hi, How will this printer compare to the Epson L7160 printer? Epson L7160 is more costly with more nozzles per color but it has lesser number of color inks. So, how do these printers compare?
