HP is a famous brand that’s been around for a long time and is known for its high-quality products and fantastic customer service. They have released the latest edition in their 100 series: HP Ink Tank 115. This printer can provide a page yield of 8000 black & white prints and 6000 coloured prints. But first, let’s talk about its core features.

  • This is a beautiful compact printer available in matte black look and can fit in even tiniest of the spaces easily.
  • The prints are clear and vivid, and we were particularly impressed with the sharp, borderless, smudge-resistant pictures that it prints.
  • While the print speed (ipm) for this printer is 7.5 pages for black and white prints and 4.5 for coloured prints, the cost per page would be 10 paise for black and white and 18 paise for coloured pages.
  • This printer doesn’t support automatic duplex printing (ADF) featurette, which was a little bummer for us. Still, if you are not into high volume printing every day, it wouldn’t be a problem for you.
  • The duty cycle of the HP 115 printer or its recommended maximum monthly print is 1000.
  • The ink tank of the printer is not only large in size but is transparent so that you can monitor and refill the ink conveniently when they finish.
  • Installation of the printer is quite easy as well, just plug in the USB cable, install the necessary drivers and you are ready to go.

Buyer’s guide

Why are ink tank printers better?

As already mentioned above, ink tank printers have several advantages over traditional printers. Since they come with integrated ink tanks, you can enjoy continuous printing without the need to change the ink cartridges. These ink tanks can be refilled with the respective colours via ink bottles, which are easy to do and spill-free. This not only saves your time and effort but also lowers your printing cost significantly in the long run.

The page yield of these printers is also considerably better than the standard printers. You can easily print 6000 to 7000 pages which is something not readily available with traditional printers.

Ink tank printers have separate ink tanks for each colour which are big enough to hold around 70 ml of ink. Hence, it doesn’t let you worry about running out of ink while also ensuring high-quality and vivid prints.

Features To Look Out in Cheap Printers

1. Multifunction Capability

One of the main factors that decide the price of a printer is its functionalities. The least functions it has, the less amount you have to pay. If you know your needs precisely, you can buy the right printer for your business in a cost-effective way. Since we are looking for (just) printers, we can leave other features aside. This can save you at least Rs. 3,000 – 5,000.

2. Page Yield and Ink Price

Page yield is an important factor to consider while choosing a printer, and it is a means of calculating your printing cost for each page. It implies the number of pages you can print with one ink tank. This is a standard number determined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is different for black and white and coloured prints. The page yield will help you understand how often the ink needs refilled and how much is it going to cost you. The manufacturer usually prints this number on the box of the printer; however, it might vary for different users due to several reasons.

The more page yield a printer has, the more cost-saving it is. Ink tank printers generally have more page yield than inkjet printers. And that’s why it’s considered more profitable, even though they might be more expensive initially.

In the case of inkjet printers, refilling the ink is not cheap, and in many low-cost printer versions, users find the ink cost to be more than the price of the printer. You can opt to buy ink cartridges from the third party, but the quality of the print they provide is disappointing and not up to the mark. Ink costs are pretty low for ink tank printers as they have large tanks and they can be refilled using ink bottles, and there is no need to replace the ink cartridges.

3. OS Support

Your printer must support most of the Operating systems available. Your printer won’t work until you download and install the required drivers. New printers may support old OS and vice versa. You need to check your printer’s driver booklet to make sure that it supports your OS.

Conclusion

Buying a printer is a tough task, but it’s a long term investment as well. Hence, you should research thoroughly before shortlisting any product. All of the above printers are great, cost-effective, easy to use, compact printers that will provide you with clear, sharp and vivid prints.

Asking you to choose one over the other is hard as they all have great properties and are affordable printers. These printers are fit for students, homes and small offices. And even though they lack some vital features like auto duplex feature, wireless connection, and scanning, etc…, but they still provide a lot of necessary features which are uncommon in printers of this price range. We hope that our review helped you in making your purchase decision for the next printer more informed and easy.

I love computer devices of all kinds! I am particularly interested in productivity devices such as printers. I remember my first printer back in 2008, which was an awesome experience for me. I learned a lot of things after that experience. I intend to share my experience through this blog. That way I can make others understand the nuances and help them to make the right purchase decision.

I am looking for inktank printer which has the option of print, scan and copy. The major issues I am facing is whether to go for Epson L3152/50 or brother dcp t710w/510w.

My requirements from the printers are,
The print quality should be good for both color and monochrome
The cost per should not be high.

Which printer will you suggest apart from models I have mentioned above?

    1. John M

      Hi Rajkumar

Thanks for asking. Considering your requirements, all of these printers seem correct for you. But my personal choice would be Brother DCP t510w, that’s because it has all the necessary features to be a business printer and the complaint history of Brother printers compared to other companies are far less. If you have a lot of scanning to do, then Brother DCP t710w ADF feature might help you.

I hope I did bring clarity to your confusion.

    Hi John,
I needed advice in picking a printer. My requirements are as follows:
Should be able to print via mobile
Cost per page should be less
    Colour print should be available
Which would be the most economical options with and without scanning facility?

    1. John M

      Hi Anaika,

If you are looking for print-only printer do check Canon G5070; lately, the price was below 12,000. But recently it has been fluctuating a bit. Keep checking it.

Or you can buy these all in one printer: HP 419, Canon G3010, Epson L3152 and Brother DCP-510W.

My suggestion would be to go with all in one printer. Even though scanning is a rarely used feature, it’s very handy when we require it.

    Hello John,
I have been reading your detailed reviews of printers. Amazing.. Many thanks for the same. For home use, kids school assignment prints and some project prints(color), which wireless printer would you recommend. Monthly usage should 50- 60 B/W prints and 10 color prints.
